Haven't heard from you in a few days. Was wondering if you'd got it
fixed, made it worse, or about the same?

Ok, I am wondering if you've seen this from my last response to your
second thread? :
You could use a real guru type geek here. I'm just a guy. No guru.
That error report file XP sent to M$, that lists three files.
Doom3.exe
~df394b.tmp
kernel32.dll
Doom3.exe and kernel32.dll I'm familiar with. Something happenening in
the last few months has acquainted me with something else that I wasn't
happy to find at all.
Though the report dump didn't state the path, there's no doubt that it
is in your My Documents, and that it is likely a program that is being
run from your temp files in My Documents. There is a lot of malware
using this means of not only installing and running itself, but also
reinstalling itself if you find and delete it. It's a low down and
dirty way of doing things, but the method is spreading fast.
You got any kind of 'dashboard' running, like something installed on the
fly from a website? Google toolbar? MyWeather bar? Anything like that
at all? ANYthing installed straight from the web? A plugin maybe? Has
your browser home page or search bar been hijacked recently? Or did you
install one you downloaded?
There are a LOT of things that ~df394b.tmp could be, but one thing is
certain: kernel32.dll (the running operating system core) and doom3.exe
went head to head with it and lost :o\
HMMM. Just googled for that file, guess what?
Invalid page fault in module DF394B.TMP with US release
If you are experiencing this problem when attempting to run the US
release of the game, this seems directly related to an incompatibility
with the protection system supplied on the disc. It is recommended that
you completely uninstall WWP and perform a full clean reinstall. Then
download the European version of the patch from the official web site
and apply it. You should now be able to run the game successfully.
I read lots of the hits on that file, and they pretty much all point to
a run in with the copy protection scheme on the CD.
You have any kind of disk emulator running? Daemon tools? The thought
just hit me that the copy protection scheme is actually malware :o) How
ironic!

You have something interfering with the copy protection scheme on the
Doom3 CD. Be it software (most likely) or be it hardware (possible).
The 'collision' with df394b.tmp is a copy protection problem, from all
I've found about it. I think your computer itself is fine.
Have a great day Bob.

McGrandpa,

Dito here, I did the same with a google search and came up with the same
answers (Obviously) Sounds like either some kind of cloning software or
SafeDisk.

Thanks Spence, When I noted 9/10 of these hits all pertained to the
same kind of situation, I finally snapped to what was likely going on.

UbiSoft incorporated copy protection that recognized some CDRW/DVD ROM
drives as "threats" and would either abort the installation at one
particular little graphic file or would simply not run the installer at
all. And either with no warnings or messages. PoP-SoT is the title, UK
is the distribution. I sent a friend an older CDRom drive that was 16x
I think. That let them install the game and play it. Talk about
paranoia!! That isn't going to stop anyone from copying their game if
that's what they want to do :o\
Im in the US, have a DVD dual format rewriter/CDRW drive. I have
several UbiSoft published titles and do NOT like UbiSoft at all. Now I
can understand why so many people were upset with them concerning other
titles, and also Uru, because they shut down the online play for it. Oh
well.
